CONSEQUENCES IF WE DON'T ACT

The emerging crisis of workforce housing affordability in Maricopa County is not a problem that will just go away -- there are potential consequences if action to solve this problem is not taken.

  • Lose the opportunity to stimulate significant consumer spending -- over $350 million annually.
  • Weaken our ability to grow high-wage jobs -- over $412 million in annual payroll is at risk.

  • Adequate and quality healthcare will be sacrificed by many families, forcing an increase in government subsidies.

  • Lose the opportunity to stabilize families and strengthen neighborhoods.

  • Lessen our ability to properly educate our students and develop a high-quality workforce due to increased mobility.

  • Residents (teachers, lab technicians, firefighters, etc.) througout the Valley will experience excessive commutes which will disrupt their quality of life, stability and productivity.
